Women's Basketball: Spain thrashes Russia in warm-up

(BEIJING, July 26) -- Spain beat Russia 90-73 on Thursday at the Moscow Tournament, a warm-up event for the Beijing Games this August.

Alba Torrens led the Spanish with 18 points while Anna Montanana scored 17 points and Nuria Martinez 13.

Spain lost Martinez to a finger injury at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where they booked a place in Beijing. With the Beijing Games drawing near, too much is at stake; Amaya Valdemoro, the backbone player of the Spanish team, watched from the bench as the team claimed the victory comfortably.

Spain will compete in group B with China, Mali, New Zealand, the United States and the Czech Republic, while Russia will try to win group A, which includes the Republic of Korea, Australia, Brazil, Belarus and Latvia.
