各种各样"门"相关的口语表达

语言源自生活,生活中的门是无处不在的,自然也少不了与之相关的种种表达。

1. be at death's door(to be nearly dead)

生命垂危

Stop worrying about it. You’ve only got the flu. It’s not like you're at death's door.

2. open the door to sth. (to allow sth new to start)


给。。。打开方便之门;使。。。成为可能

The discovery of a cure for the disease opens the door to big changes in the pharmaceuticalindustry.

3. show sb the door(to tell someone that they must leave)


逐客

I told her that I wasn't interested in her product and I showed her the door.

4. open doors(to give someone new opportunities)


给某人机会

The success of his film opened doors for him, and within a year he was working in Hollywood.

5. on somebody's doorstep(very near to where you like)


离某人很近;在门口

The great thing about our new home is that the train station is right on our doorstep.

6. close the door on sth(to make it impossible for sth to happen, esp. a plan or a solution to a problem)

堵死。。。的门路

There are fears that the recent attack may have closed the door on a peaceful solution to the conflict.

7. get your foot in the door/get a leg in the door(to start working at a low level in an organizaion because you want a better job in the same orginization in the future)

I know it's not the job you'd hoped for, but at least you've got a foot in the door.

8. lay sth(the blame) at sb's door(to blame sb for sth bad that has happened; to say that someone is responsible for sth)

Blame for the lack of progress was laid firmly at the government's door.
