A: Your way of recruitment of employees is quite different from that in Japan.
B: What's the difference? Maybe we can learn something from you.
A: Basically,the biggest difference is the matter of lifetime employment for all of our regular employees.
B: That sounds great,but may not feasible in our nation.
正式员工 regular employee
A: In Japan,we assure that a regular employee will stay with the company for his entire career.
B: What do you mean by your regular employees? All your employees or merely the whitecollar?
A: Actually,both white-collar and blue-collar.
B: Do you mean that the companies in Japan and their employees have a certain commitment to each other to stay together through the employees entire career life?
A: You said it!
临时员工 part time/temporary employees
A: We recruit temporary employees sometimes.
B: Then how do you decide who will be the regular employees?
A: We have an interview procedure and they will also pass a strict test. Then those with excellent performances will become regular employees.
裁员 lay off workers
A: You don't even lay workers off in slack times?
B: That rarely happens in Japan.
职务升迁应当以工作表现为基础。The promotion should be mainly based on the performance at work.
A: What about the promotion and transfers in Japanese companies?
B: The employees are usually promoted or transferred on the basis of seniority and this is consistent with the seniority system in many areas in Japanese society.
A: But I think the promotion should be mainly based on the performance at work.
B: It's reasonable, too.

A: It is said that there's much paternalism in the employee relationships in Japanese companies.
B: Many share the same idea with you,but we don't believe so.
A: How do you define the so-called "paternalism" in Japan?
B: We are interested in creating a happy working environment for our employees and we hope that the employees see the company as a kind of family and working here as a part of their life.

B: Yes,but our company housing allowances take the form of dormitory facilities for single employees and apartment facilities for married employees.
