Go off the deep end的意思是“不要鲁莽冲动”。其英文解释为： to act irrationally, following one's emotions or fantasies。

此语源于游泳。游泳池一段水深，一端水浅。如果一个人不知道水的深浅，从深水的一头跳入池子里，那他就跳进了没底的深水中。如果这个人又不识水性，就糟糕了。这样做事相当鲁莽冲动的。
