小明英语课堂第一季视频 第15课: bust
教案:
Hi! Welcome to class for today. Our slang today is about "busting. Alright. So what does "bust" mean
欢迎来到今天的课程。我们今天的俚语是关于bust的。它是什么意思呢?
So if you throw a balloon that's full of water and it explodes everywhere, you just "busted" that balloon
如果你扔一个充满水的气球,然后它爆炸了,你打碎了那个气球
You can bust a tire if a nail goes into it…so yeah. Bust means "break" or "explode"
你可以把钉子钉进去使一个轮胎爆炸。Bust的意思就是打破,爆炸的意思
However, if you have been "busted," it means you have been exposed
如果你被busted了,它的意思就是你被暴露了。
Your plan, which was probably very carefully planned and arranged, like a beautiful building, has exploded
你的计划,可能是通过很多计划和安排的,就像一个漂亮的建筑爆炸了
and everyone can see what you were trying to do
所有人都知道了你想做什么
It's easy to get busted while robbing a bank, or trying to sneak out of the house to see a movie
在抢劫银行或者从家里溜出去看电影都比较容易被暴露并且抓住
These are all plans, you would expect them to go some way, and all of a sudden someone sees it
就是关于你所期待的计划在进行,但是突然有人看到了
someone exposes it, and *pwwh*, it's ruined. It'll never work
有人揭发了你的计划,这样你的计划就被破坏了
It's the most frustrating, I think, when you're trying to plan a surprise party for your friend
这是很让人沮丧的。当你试着去给你的朋友一个惊喜派对的时候
and suddenly you're busted when your friend hears you talking to someone about what kind of cake to get
突然你在跟别人商量买什么蛋糕的时候被人听见了,被揭发了
After a plan is exposed like that, it is bust.
当一个计划被揭发了之后,它就没用了
It is useless. Or even if the plan just didn't work like you hoped, you can still call it "bust"
如果一个计划没有实现,你也可以叫它bust
For example, you can hear, "wow, that party was supposed to be a lot of fun, but it turned out to be a bust because no one came"
例如,你可能会听到 "那个派对本应该是很有意思的,但是它失败了,因为没有人来参加"
Or, "well, my mom saw me climbing out the window, to watch that movie with you, so I guess that plan is a bust
或者 "我妈妈看到了我从窗户爬出去去和你看电影,所以我想这个计划泡汤了
So remember, "busted": you have been exposed, someone has discovered your plan, and afterwards, the plan itself is a bust
记住,busted的意思是你被揭发了,有人发现了你的计划,然后计划就泡汤了
Sentence structure. Here is our example: "As in everything, there are difficulties in buying a car"
现在是句型。这是我们今天的例句"总之,买一辆车有很多难题
As in everything, there are A's in B. So you're saying that lots of things have "A's"
总之,在B里有很多A。所以你说的是很多都有A
And the example that you're using right now is B. So here's another one
总之,在城市里居住有一些问题
As in everything, there are problems with living in the city
现在所用的例句是关于B的。另外一个例子是
Lots of things have problems (A's) just like living in the city (B)
很多事都有问题(A),就像居住在城市里(B)
And I know those two sentences are both bad things, but there are also good sentences
我知道这两句话都是比较消极的,但是也有正面的句子
"As in everything, there are good sides to dropping out of college"
总之,退学也有它自己的优势
So you can use the sentence for negative, and for positives
你可以把句子用在正面和负面的话题上
But you're talking about a aspect of an example
但是你是在讲一个例子的一个方面
A aspect applies to a whole range of things. Why don' you try making a sentence
一个方面包含一系列的事物。你也来试试吧
Our etymology for today is "imag-" or "image." I think I just gave away one of the words
我们今天的词源是imag或者image。我想我刚刚已经透露了一个单词了。
But the root is spelled I-M-A-G. This is Latin for "representation," "likeness," "picture," appearance"
词根是imag。在拉丁语里的意思是表现,图画,外观
So I-M-A-G is a picture of something. For example
所以imag是某物的一个图片。
this video is a representation of me, but it's not actually me
例如这个视频是我的一个表现,但是它不是我。
So this kind of moves into our first word, "image"
所以这就说到了我们第一个词,image。
You know what it means. It's a picture, or just the visual of something
你知道它的意思吧,是一张图,或者是一个物体的视觉呈现
Because it is representing something, but it's not the actual thing
它是某物的展现,但不是某物本身
And you can have mental images, too, and this is called imagery
你也可以有心里的影像。这叫做imagery(意象)
We talk about imagery a lot in English class
我们在英语课上讨论很多关于意象的问题
When you read a book and someone starts talking about this beautiful dinner that they had
当你读一本书的时候某人开始讲关于他们吃过的一顿特别美好的晚餐
with juicy turkey lying on the table, surrounded by lots of baked potatoes and ..oh, I'm getting hungry
餐桌上有多汁的火鸡,周围还有很多烤土豆。。。我饿了
Because I have imagery in my head, I can see the pictures that you're talking about
因为我的脑海里有意象,我可以看到你所说的视觉呈现
And yes, these pictures are imaginary. They're just in my head. They're not real
当然这些图是意象的,它们只在我脑海里。他们不是真的
And all these imaginary pictures are part of your imagination
这些意象的图都是你想象的一部分
the ability to form images and ideas in your head
想象力是可以在你的脑海里组成图和想法的。
They represent something that could be real, but they're not
它们呈现的是一些可以为真实的事物,但是它们的出现是虚构的
And if you have a lot of imagination, it means you are very imaginative
如果你有很多想象力,你是一个很富有想象力的人。
You can put lots of pictures in your head. You have that ability
你可以在脑海里存放很多图片,你有这种能力
So that is our etymology for today
这就是我们今天的词源。
