Meili Snow Mountain greets sunrise
Photo taken on Oct. 15, 2008 shows the Meili Snow Mountain at sunrise in Deqin county, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest China's Yunnan province. As one of the 118 snow-capped mountains stand 5,000 meters high above sea level in the Three Parallel Rivers region, the Meili Snow Mountain rises 6,740 meters high and its peak is covered with glaciers formed thousands of years ago. Extending to the Mingyongcun forest region 2,700 meters above sea level, the glaciers are among the most grand and rare monsoon marine glaciers of low latitude and low altitude in the world. The construction of the Meili Snow Mountain National Park has kicked off and is expected to be finished in 2012. |
