  About the Word:

  It comes from the Japanese kara ("empty") + ōke, short for ōkesutora("orchestra").

  该词来源语日语的kara(空的)和ōke(“乐团”的缩写),即“空荡荡的乐团”。

  Karaoke became popular in Japan among businessmen in the late 1970s, andgained widespread popularity in the U.S. in the late 1980s.
