  托福口语参考答案一:

Well, I don’t think watching TV series about a country is the best way to learn their culture. TV series are fictional and the storyline might be very dramatic and unreal, and it is not based on lives of mainstream citizens. Actually, there are much better approaches to learn a country’s culture, for example, taking a short trip in the country or join on a exchange program to study there. In this way, we got a chance to talk to locals and get to know their culture, customs and way of living. By interacting with them we can broaden our horizon and have new perspective on things, thus we can get more exposure to the local culture.(新东方 孟炎)

I agree that watching a country’s TV showsis one of the best ways to learn about it. First, by watching its TV newsprograms, we learn what are the hottest issues in the country, regarding politics, military force, economy or culture, like who is the country’s current leader orwhat are its major party’s political strategies etc; second, by watching itspopular entertainment programs or soap operas on TV, we got the chance to havea closer look on common people’s preferences, like what are their likes anddislikes, and what is in fashion in the nation.

  Sample answer

I personally would not agree with this statement for the following reasons.

Firstly, I would choose to travel to know a country and I think it’s a better choice than watching the local programs. I prefer to talk to the local people to know their daily lives and customs. It’s a more efficient and natural way to know a place. While when you are watching a TV program, sometimes it’s hard to get sense in the program when the context and the language are unfamiliar to you. With the gesture and the picture you see in front of me, I can incorporate all the elements into my understanding towards the place.
