名师指导:托福写作答题技巧

2008-10-21来源:
When you practise TWE, remeber you must limit writing an essay within 30 minutes, not longer! This is the total amount of time you will have to read the question, think about the topic, plan what you will say, and write your essay. Never leave an article incomplete.

Follow this plan:

1. Read the question very carefully.
a. Put a line under the main topic.
b. Put a line under the main words that tell you what you need to write. The following verbs are important: discuss, explain, state, describe, support, compare, contrast

2. Make brief notes of the examples you want to write about or the opinions you are giving.

3. Look at your notes and organize them. What should you say first, what next? How will you conclude?

4. Check back to the words you underlined in the topic. Do you have an answer, example, or opinion for each part of the question?

5. Begin writing. Begin with a clear statement that answers the main question. Give details and specific examples to support your opinion. Write clearly so your paper can be read easily. End with a summary statement that reinforces your point of view. Remember that the readers do not know what you are saying. You must make everything clear to them.

6. Check over your writing briefly to be sure it is clear and that it answers the question. For some people it helps to read the essay out loud (very quietly) to check the sentences.

Watch the clock and plan your time. As you practice, try the suggested time plan below, and adjust it to your own way of writing.

6-8 minutes: read the question and take notes to organize your answer
18-20 minutes: write your essay
2-4 minutes: check your writing
