111 nothing but，anything but

这两个片语的涵义并不相同。

Nothing but的意思是“只不过”，其深层涵义为“除了…之外，什么都不是”。例：
It is nothing but a joke．
这不过是开开玩笑而已。
Two decades ago this city was nothing but a small unknown county．
二十年前，这个城市只不过是一个无名的小县城。
Mr．Song is nothing but skin and bones．
宋先生瘦得只有皮包骨。
请注意，当nothing放在句首用作主语，其后的but 是个介词，相当于except，接复数名词时，动词常用单数形式。例：

Anything but的意思是“决非”或“并不”，相当于far from之意。例：
