When Google announced last week that it may pull out of China, it also delayed the launch of two cellphones that use the Android operating system - but that hasn't stopped manufacturers from moving ahead with Android services there.

Reuters reported this morning that Sony Ericsson has no plans to delay the launch of its Android phone in China, which is set for this spring.

And Motorola today unveiled a store for Android applications in China. According to Dow Jones Newswires, Motorola 'said its application store, dubbed Shop4Apps, was created to further tap the demand by Chinese consumers and developers for a central market for Android programs.' Motorola already has two Android devices in China and has signed deals with companies such as Chinese Web giant Baidu for search.

So what's different about the phones that Google has postponed? It's not the manufacturers - one of the delayed phones is made in partnership with Motorola (with the other being made with Samsung). The difference is that the delayed devices are also packed with things like Google maps and mobile search.

As Digits reported earlier, 'Google has pushed forward two lines of smartphones: devices that feature the latest Google software and programs, and phones that run on customized software developed by the handset partner.' The former could face problems if Google decides to pull out of the country, but the others might not be affected.

'There's a clear separation of Android as a platform versus the commercial work done with Google,' Christy Wyatt, vice president of software applications for Motorola, told Dow Jones.

Google had no comment on the developments.
