　　She explained: 'I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through. I’ve wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, "Right. This is it."

　　'It was weird. My hairdresser was like, "When are you going to freak out? Most people cry or go into shock," but I was very calm.

　　'I knew it was the right thing. I went to the salon alone and I left alone.

　　'I knew everyone was going to have an opinion, and I couldn’t deal with it.

　　'I have to get myself into a good place to deal with people saying things like, "It’s terrible! She looks like a boy!"'

　　而爱玛的同学也将要适应她的短发新造型，她说：“我错过了一半青少年尝试不同新鲜事物的阶段，我十六岁时就想剪短发了，所以我已有机会便付诸实际。我的发型师告诉我，你这样会让不少人感到很吃惊的，但我很淡定。我想这是对的事情，虽然大家都会有自己的想法，不过我也顾不了这么多了。我已经做好准备，接受大家的指指点点，比如说‘真不好看，她看起来像个男孩子’。”
