CRI听力:Premier Wen Meets Merkel in Beijing

Chinese President Hu Jintao met with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday, calling for closer ties and broader cooperation in various fields.

Hu Jintao said China is ready to make joint efforts with Germany to push forward their partnership that shoulders global responsibilities.

For her part, Merkel said that Germany will continue to uphold the one-China policy and is willing to keep communication and coordination with China on key issues.

A delegation of some 100 members including businessmen accompanied Merkel to China.

Earlier in the day, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao hold meeting with his German counterpart Angela Merkel.

Wen Jiabao welcomed Merkel's second visit to China as Chancellor.

"During the time that Merkel has been chancellor, we have noticed some changes. In our discussions and meeting, I can assure you there are changes. These changes are progress, not steps backward."

Merkel said she hoped to deepen bilateral relations and cooperations.

"Industrialised nations - including Germany - would like to provide the newest technology on a basis of joint development, which China belongs to."

After the talks, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony for bilateral cooperative documents including two framework agreements on the establishment of two working groups in the fields of environmental protection and energy.

Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo will also meet Merkel during her stay.
