CRI听力：Over 99% of China's Exported Agricultural Products Are Safe

A senior official with China's Agriculture Ministry says that test results show the country's agricultural products are safe and have even surpassed many international competitors in some aspects.

As a major exporter of farm produce, China introduced a regular testing of agricultural products since 2001. It includes farm licensing, supervision of pesticide, entry and exit animal and plant quarantine, as well as monitoring of labels.

Director of the Agriculture Ministry's Market and Economic Information Department, Zhang Yuxiang says as a result of strict testing measures, China's farm exports are gaining popularity overseas. She quotes the recent results from Japan's test of the imported products to the country last year.

"It shows that the compliance rate of Chinese products is not only higher than the average rate, but also better than that of the US and EU."

Similarly, the compliance rates of China's agricultural products exported to the US as well to the European Union are also above 99 percent.

To secure food safety for domestic farm produce, the Agriculture Ministry conducts five monitoring and supervision tests each year on vegetables in 37 cities, livestock products in 22 cities and aquatic products in eight cities.

The latest test results show that currently, the compliance rate of vegetables stand at above 94 percent, that of livestock products is 98 percent, while for the aquatic products, it's over 97 percent.

Zhang Yuxiang says that the ministry will soon carry out a nation-wide special initiative to further improve the safety of agricultural products.

"We'll test the chemicals applied throughout the production process and inspect the quality of additive materials used. For green food, organic food and pollution-free food, we'll also carry out comprehensive quality inspection."

In addition, the official says, the ministry will offer guidance, training and services to people, in terms of agricultural production and management.
