CRI听力:Abolishment of Public Graduates, a Better Move for People's Career Orientation
Some universities, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University in Beijing have abolished the system of letting people receive a graduate education at state expense. Instead, they provide various scholarships for students to pay their tuition fees. And more Chinese universities will follow suit in the next year.
But according to a recent survey, more than 80% of respondents worry the move will rule out poor students. The China Youth Daily carries an article to support the abolishment.
The paper says though it will have an effect on students with financial difficulties, the move will help them make better choice on their career orientation.
While compulsory education is to provide people with basic knowledge, higher education is designed to help people master professional knowledge to make a living. The paper says people should choose their future by their own interests.
The paper indicates people compete for public graduate places just for a master degree in the past. With the end of free graduate education, they will surely make choices more on their future career.
