CRI听力:Eight Pandas from Reserve near quake Epicenter Arrive in Beijing
Eight pandas have arrived in Beijing safely from Wolong Giant Pandas' Reserve near the epicenter of the recent earthquake in southwest China.
The pandas will spend the next six months at the Beijing Zoo. They are expected to go on display for the Olympics until November.(Www.hxen.net)
The eight two-year-old pandas were flown to Beijing by a special plane from Chengdu, the capital of quake-hit Sichuan Province. They had been under careful watch during the flight.
Zhang Jinguo is the Vice President of Beijing Zoo.
"Although I flew from Chengdu to Beijing I didn't come with the cargo plane. Others did, and after they got off I asked them how the pandas were. They said all through the flight the pandas stayed calm and didn't have any reaction at all to the flight."
The pandas appeared lively after they were put into their exhibit space at the zoo on Saturday evening.
Visitors were treated to the sight of the animals gamboling around the enclosure, and munching on bamboo shoots.
The 8.0-maginitude quake caused some damage to the Wolong reserve, with two pandas still missing. The reserve is part of the efforts to breed giant pandas in hopes of increasing the species' chances of survival.
