CRI听力:Chinese Foreign Minister Shows Deep Gratitude towards Foreign Medical Team in Sichuan

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has made a special visit to the international medical teams working in Southwest China's earthquake hit regions. On behalf of the Chinese government and leadership, Yang Jiechi expressed his deepest appreciation to the foreign medical personnel.

CRI Reporter Chen Xi brings you the story from Chengdu.

After reaching Chengdu No.2 Hospital, the base for the British medical team, Yang Jiechi expressed the Chinese government and people's deep gratitude for the team's devoted commitment.

The Chinese Foreign Minister's main message to the doctors from Britain was a heartfelt thank you.

"Thank you so much, thank you for all the things you have done. I heard that this group of seven has come from all parts of Britain. You've come from afar to help us and we are deeply appreciative for what you have done. I think under your meticulous care, the patients are getting better and better."

Yang Jiechi also reiterated the importance of cross-national support during the process of globalization.

"There is firm leadership within the Chinese government at all levels and our people are united. This is a small world and we should work together, help each other."
The British medical team leader, Tony Redmond, thanked the Chinese government and the local people for their support.

He also praised his Chinese counterparts for their outstanding ability to perform during the severe aftershocks in the disaster zone.(Www.hxen.net)

"Everybody was working at the time so they were more concentrated on that and I have to say that the Chinese doctors and nurses in operating theatre were very calm. And they told us what to do and we felt ok. There performance has been heroic. They have worked very hard, very compassionately and very skillfully."

The seven-member elite medical team arrived in the earthquake-devastated area one week ago, bring a combined experience from previous relief work in other countries.

They have shared their expertise with the Chinese medical professionals, especially in regards to surgical techniques.

In addition, the British government and business sector donated cash and other relief materials valued at more than 14 million US dollars to the Chinese people.
During his stay in Chengdu, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also visited the medical teams from Russia, Cuba and Japan.
