CRI听力：Chinese President: Make Science A Strong Support

While visiting China's two top sci-tech academies, Chinese President Hu Jintao says China will focus more on independent innovation and make science and technology a strong support to China's economic and social development.

Addressing at the opening ceremony of a five day conference of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese President Hu Jintao said now Science and technology has been playing a more important role in economic and social development.

"We should pay more attention on energy and water resources, environmental protection and global climate change. More concern should also be given to the development of information and biological technology."

Hu suggested the two academies to focus more on developing technologies improving people's livelihood.

Hu said in today's world, who owns advanced science and technology has the initiative to develop economy and society.
It is China's great strategic choice to make it an innovation oriented country.

"We have to make the improvement of our independent innovation capability as our principle task among all the sci-tech development works. We should invest more in it."

Hu Jintao pointed out in the past 30 years, China has made many breakthroughs in the fields such as hybrid rice and outer space exploration. And China has ranked atop among all the developing countries in its sci-tech development level.
