CRI听力：Chinese President Welcomes People from Worldwide To Beijing Games

Chinese president Hu Jintao has welcomed worldwide people to participate in and watch the Beijing Olympics. He noted on Friday in Beijing that with the country's seven years' preparation for the event, China can fulfill its commitment to hold a high-level Olympics.

President Hu Jintao made the remarks during a group interview with journalists from 25 international media organizations on Friday. He said that the Chinese people are opening their arms to welcome people from all over the world to the Beijing Olympic Games.

"The Beijing Olympics belong to the Chinese people, and it also belongs to the people of the world. On behalf of the Chinese government and its people, I welcome our friends worldwide to come to Beijing to watch the games. Foreign journalists are also welcome to cover the Games."

Hu Jintao said holding the Olympics in a country that is home to one-fifth of the world's population shows the world's trust in China. The country has been sparing no efforts in preparing for the games and is confident it can hold a high-level Olympics.

When asked about some countries' connecting the Games with political issues, Hu Jintao warned that politicizing the Olympics runs counter to the Olympic spirit and will not result in a positive outcome.

"It is inevitable that people from different countries and regions may have different points of view on different issues. I think we should enter into consultations on equal footing to narrow our differences and expand our common ground on the basis of mutual respect."(Www.hxen.net)

A sports fan himself, the president expressed his wishes for all athletes.

"As the host of the Beijing Games, we sincerely hope athletes from all over the world can perform well. I also hope that both Chinese and foreign athletes can learn from each other during the games to collectively contribute to the development of the Olympic movement."

Hu Jintao added that the Olympics not only offer an arena for athletes from around the world to attain glory and realize their dreams, but also provide a platform for all the participants to enhance understanding and deepen friendship.
