The Chinese Olympic squad continues its campaign to lead the gold medal tally on Wednesday.

Chinese strongwoman Liu Chunhong broke three world records to retain her Olympic champion title in the women's 69-kilogram category.

23-year-old Liu Chunhong dominated the match with three new world records, snatching 128 kilo and jerking 158 for a total of 286 kilo.

"On July 23, President Hu Jintao came to see us. As the leader of our weightlifting team, I told President Hu that we are ready for the Olympics. Today I broke the records. I've fulfilled my promise to President Hu. We didn't disappoint him and our countrymen."(Www.hxen.net)

The Chinese weightlifting team has so far won six gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.

In shooting, Chen Ying won the gold medal in the women's 25-meter pistol competition. She also set a new Olympic record following a rule change in the event.

31-year-old Chen Ying ranked third among eight finalists, and five points behind the leader, going into the finals, but came back with unmatched accuracy in the final.

"Five points is really a large gap, but I've been in such situations before, and I overtook the competitors before me. I know that as long as I can shoot every shot well, victory will come."

Inside the Water Cube, defending world champions Qin Kai and Wang Feng twisted to victory in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard final.

With their victory, China has swept all four gold medals in the synchronized diving events at the Beijing Games.

The Chinese duo are satisfied with their performance.

"We've done a good job today. People saw our performance, but they seldom know how much we've put in behind the scenes, and that's why we are so excited."

Qin and Wang's victory reasserts China's supremacy in the 3-meter springboard after failed attempts in Athens four years ago.

And early in the day, the Chinese women's gymnastics team won their first-ever team gold medal, marking a historic breakthrough anticipated for decades.

Five-time world champion Cheng Fei is the team captain.

"I'm not the team member with the greatest achievements in the competition, and we really had a close call."

In basketball, Chinese women's team beat New Zealand 80-63.

In volleyball, Chinese women's team squandered a two-set lead to lose 3-2 to Cuba.

In soccer, Chinese men's team was eliminated after losing 3-0 to Brazil.

By Wednesday, China has grabbed 17 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronzes.
