Our reporter Xiao Hua takes a closer look.

Reporter:

In a bid to deepen China-Russia relations, premier Wen Jiabao will have discussions with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to draw new plans for cooperation between the two countries.

Chinese vice foreign minister Li Hui says he expects the visit will focus on two important tasks.

"Firstly, the two leaders will comprehensively review the implementation of previous cooperation plans. They will have in-depth discussions and find solutions to the problems emerging from previous collaboration. Moreover, the two leaders are tasked with determining new plans for cooperation in various sectors next year."

During his visit, premier Wen Jiabao will also meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and attend the opening ceremony of the third high-level China-Russia Economic Forum.

With regard to the premier's planned attendance of the SCO prime ministers' meeting, political expert Li Yongquan says it will deepen regional cooperation among member countries.

Li Yongquan stresses that regional cooperation will be conducive to boosting development of member countries amid the current global financial crisis.

"Strengthening regional and bilateral collaboration is an effective way for countries to develop their economies. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization should play an important role in this regard."

The expert reveals that Premier Wen Jiabao will present new ideas in the meeting concerning the development of the organization and cooperation among member countries.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization consists of China, Russia and four central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
