Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu says that the Chinese government strongly condemns the killing of four Chinese workers in Sudan, urging the country to take every measure to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals.

"The Chinese government feels great sorrow for the loss, and we extend our deep sympathy to the victims' families. We strongly condemn the kidnapping and the killing of innocent civilians. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has been keeping in touch with the Chinese Embassy in Sudan to step up efforts on rescuing the missing worker and handling funeral affairs for the deceased."

The Chinese embassy learnt from Sudanese authorities on Monday that among the nine Chinese workers abducted on October 19, four had been killed, one had gone missing, while four others managed to escape the danger.

Jiang Yu added that China appreciates the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. She hoped that Sudan would continue to search the missing Chinese worker, urging the Sudanese government to take all necessary measures to safeguard Chinese citizens in Sudan.

At Tuesday's press conference, Jiang Yu also responded to a question concerning the ** Lama's declaration that he intended to give up talks with the central government.(WWw.hxen.net)

Jiang Yu said the Chinese central government has always adhered to consistent, explicit policies towards the ** Lama, and also adopted a sincere attitude in making contact with him.

She said the central government needs to not only listen to what the ** Lama says but also observe what he does.

"If the ** Lama is willing to improve the relationship with the central government, he should demonstrate sincerity and adhere to the promise made during a meeting with a central government representative in July this year."
