CRI听力:Syrian President wants dialogue with New US Administration with no preconditions
Syrian President Bashar Assad says that he wants a dialogue with the United States, but there should be no preconditions by the Obama administration.
Assad told Lebanon's Al-Manar TV that the new American administration has sent officials close to it to Damascus to start a dialogue with Syria.
"As long as there are conditions, dialogue will not occur. They know that but I think the dialogue has started weeks ago in a serious way through officials close to the administration, sent by the administration to have a dialogue with Syria."
He said Syria witnessed a desire by the new administration to explore the situation in the Middle East regarding Arab-Israeli peace as well as Iraq.(www.hxen.net)
On peace talks with Israel, Assad reiterates that Israel has to withdraw from all Syrian territories captured more than three decades ago.
Syria and Israel held four rounds of indirect talks mediated by Turkey in 2008, but the discussions made no significant headway and it is not clear when they might resume. Syria suspended the talks with Israel in response to Israel's three-week assault on the Gaza Strip.
