CRI听力:UN Calls for Cooperation, Responsibility in Tackling Crisis
The United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-moon has called for cooperation and responsibility to overcome the current global financial crisis, climate change, food safety, energy and other global challenges.
Ban was speaking at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in the Swiss skiing resort of Davos.
"We must break the short-term thinking, in favor of long-term solutions. This will demand a new commitment to core principles. In this time of economic crisis, I know there'll tendency to nationalism, protectionism and other many isms, so-called isms that promote narrow self interest over common global objectives."
Ban emphasized that it is of vital importance to cooperate with other countries against the current bleak economic backdrop.
The five-day annual event has drawn more than 2,500 representatives from 96 countries, including a record 43 heads of state or government and 1,400 business leaders.
