An exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Democratic Reform in China's Tibet Autonomous Region has opened at the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing.

Zhu Xiaohui, a senior researcher with the China Tibetan Studies Center, said that the exhibition aims to highlight the tremendous changes that have taken place in Tibet since the Democratic Reform began in 1959.

"This exhibition has presented a real Tibet. For foreigners who have a twisted picture of Tibet and misguided by the propaganda of the ** Clique, this is absolutely a great opportunity to know better the Past Tibet and what Tibet looks like nowadays.(www.hXen.com)

The exhibition is dviided into three sections: the peaceful liberation of Tibet, the crack-down on the Armed Rebellion, and Democratic Reform in the autonomous region.

On display are pictures dating back 50 years, instruments used to torture the serfs when Tibet was still under a feudal system, scenes representing in a vivid way the miserable life of serfs, and the jubilant celebrations when the serfs were emancipated.

Pubu Drolma is a visitor at the exhibition.

"I think the exhibition is a sensation, presenting a real Tibet to the public. The pictures illustrate what the wretched had suffered. Thanks to the Communist Party and its policies, those dark days are gone forever. We now can lead a happy life. "

On a special stage several Tibetan artists present visitors with their New Year's preparations, including Ghee-flower making, painting, and local snacks such as kasai, buttered tea, and tsampa.

The exhibition will run through April 10th.
