2009-03-03来源:和谐英语

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has participated in his first web chat with netizens around the globe, answering over 30 questions posted online. The questions ranged from health care to employment and everything in between.

A commentary in the Beijing News says that netizens' active participation in this online chat is a good reflection of the public's willingness to know what the government is thinking about and doing.

It also notes it's a direct and convenient way for netizens to voice their complaints and suggestions to government policies. (www.hxen.net)

The author of the article points out that the government relies on support from the people, in order to push forward transparency of government affairs and democratization of decision making.

The Internet can be used as a tool to gather public opinion, the author argues, and web chat is an effective mechanism for the government to learn opinions on how to improve people's livelihood. That's because online opinions have become an indispensable part of public voices.

The People's Daily Online has also published an article saying that if the decision makers want to know whether their polices are popular among the masses and assess the effectiveness of the implementation of these policies, they need to listen to the public's opinions and communicate with them frequently.
