CRI听力:Public Criticism towards Accountability System
The reappointment of a top-level county official in southwest China's Guizhou province has triggered criticism from the public.
The official was sacked after a protest over the local government's actions following the death of a teenage girl last July. But he has now been appointed as a financial official in another county of the province.
An article in the Beijing News cites a number of other re-assigned officials who failed to fulfill their responsibilities in social affairs.(www.hXen.com)
It says people are complaining about the country's accountability system for public servants.
The article argues that officials found negligent in their duties should be punished, rather than transferred to a new position after a short period.
A Chinese scholar of sociology, Bai Shuo, also blames the fact that officials never face real dismissal as long as they do not commit actual crimes. He says this practice must be completely stamped out.
The article suggests that the accountability system for government officials should be further clarified and strengthened.
