At last year's session of the People's Congress in Shengzhou city, Zhejiang Province was temporilly suspended after a disturbance during the meeting.
A member of the congress standing committee punched a deputy. For that, he was recently fined 500 yuan, or close to 75 US dollars.An article in the Southern Metropolis Daily, says that man, should have been given a stiffer penalty, since he damaged the legislature's image. (www.hXen.com)
The article says the two had a personal dispute. But to use the meeting to settle their differences was wrong.
The paper says lawmakers should set a good public example. If not, then they shouldn't be allowed to serve as a deputy at the People's Congress.
