Turning to sports. The coaches of the North and South Korean national football teams have tried to put aside politics ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Seoul.

Both have expressed the wish that they could advance to the finals next year.

North Korean coach Kim Jong Hun spoke at a news conference in Seoul ahead of Wednesday's match.

"I heard it is a very crucial game for both teams to pass the preliminary stage. In my thoughts, I expect tomorrow's game to be intense since players are going to open up their own good phases in this game."

"Even though we are divided, we are the same race. I think it is a big source of pride and honor for each of us to receive seeds and enter the World Cup, South-North together, as one race. I think it is really great and, if possible, I hope we could move up together by putting forth our best efforts."

North Korea beat the United Arab Emirates 2-0 in Pyongyang over the weekend, putting the team at the top of Group B.

Having played a game more, North Korea has 10 points, South Korea has eight and Saudi Arabia is in third place with seven points in the five-team group.

Only the top two teams in both groups in the final full round of the Asian qualifiers will progress to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
