Speaking at the WHO Representative Office in China, Hans Troedsson says despite two confirmed cases, the flu situation is still under control in China.

"It's correct that you have these two cases, but it's too early to say if this is a large outbreak. We understand that it can be easily transmitted from people to people. So far all the cases have been in the mild form and people have recovered. What I think is the most important thing is that we are prepared, even if it is not inevitable."

Hans Troedsson says the WHO is in daily contact with China's Health authorities for the latest updates on the flu situation. He is happy with the responsiveness and transparency of the process.

"China's government and health authorities reported very timely to the WHO within 24 hours and even earlier within 12 hours both the cases and contacts. So we are very pleased with the reporting by the government."

The representative says China, having stood the tests of SARS and bird flu, has garnered necessary experience and knowledge to fight against the new H1N1 virus.

Troedsson has also called for coordinated efforts among all countries to facilitate the development of an effective vaccine and an equal sharing of the vaccines to all countries.
