The Chinese Health Ministry has reported a confirmed case of A/H1N1 flu in Beijing.

It was the third confirmed case on the Chinese mainland but the first in the capital city.

The case involved an 18-year-old female who studies in a university in the New York State.(www.hXen.com)

Fang Laiying, director of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, briefed on her condition at a press conference.

"She arrived in Beijing on May 11 on board the U.S. Continental Airline CO-89. She felt unwell and physically weak on May 13, and went to the fever outpatient section of the Peking University No. 1 Hospital in the evening on May 14. The hospital was very vigilant, and asked her to remain for observation. The patient was transferred to the Beijing Ditan Hospital early in the morning on May 15. We tested a specimen taken via a swab from her throat. The Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention Saturday noon confirmed she was positive for A/H1N1."

The Health Ministry said experts made the decision based on the patient's symptoms, epidemiological investigation results and laboratory tests.

It said the patient was currently in a stable condition, with a normal body temperature.
All the people who had close contact with her had been tracked down and put under medical observation, with no one feeling unwell.

The health ministry has reported the case to the World Health Organization, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and relevant countries.

The first two cases on the Chinese mainland are Chinese nationals who had been students in the United States and Canada.
