CRI听力: US Diplomat Calls for N. Korea to Abandon its Nuclear Programs
US Deputy Secretary of State, James Steinberg, has called for North Korea to return to the path of complete and verifiable denuclearization.
He also warned North Korea of additional sanctions if it refuses to abandon its nuclear programs.
Steinberg made the remarks on Wednesday in Seoul after talks with South Korea's vice foreign minister Kwon Jong-rak.(www.hXen.com)
"I think we have a common view that we need to take steps to make clear to the North that the path it's on is the wrong one but we are prepared, if they are prepared to change course, to enter an effective dialogue that will really lead to a complete and verifiable denuclearization of the peninsula."
Earlier on Tuesday, Steinberg met with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso in Tokyo. They agreed to seek a powerful UN resolution on Pyongyang's nuclear threats.
South Korean media reported Pyongyang has shifted its most advanced long-range missile to a new west coast launch site and could fire the missile as early as mid-June.
