CRI听力: SCO Leaders Hold Smaller Meeting in Yekaterinburg
Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held a Smaller Meeting in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on Monday.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev opened the two-day meeting by saying the group would discuss the global financial crisis and regional security.(www.hxen.net)
"It is very symbolic that we meet on June 15, the day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Today our organization marks eight years since it was established. It seems time runs very fast. Our organization has been created recently, but it has scored quite serious progress."
Joint documents will be signed after the summit meeting on Tuesday.
The SCO was founded in Shanghai in 2001.
It groups China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Four nations, including Mongolia, India, Pakistan and Iran, have observer status at the SCO.
