CRI听力:Obama to Extend Canceled Policy by 1 Year

The announcement comes at a time when the President is under mounting criticism for failing to honor his commitment that the Obamacare law will allow Americans keep their healthcare insurance policies if they like them.

And the fix President Obama is offering now is an extension of another year.

"The bottom line is insurers can extend current plans that would otherwise be canceled into 2014. And Americans whose plans that had been canceled can choose to re-enroll."

Many health insurance providers say they're going to have to cancel people's current insurance plans, as they don't meet the requirements of Affordable Care Act.

Obama's announcement of the stop-gap measure has met with immediate criticism.

The insurance industry says President Obama's proposal could cause marketplace chaos.

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) President and CEO Karen Ignagni says changing the rules could lead to higher premiums for customers whose plans DO meet the requirements of Obamacare.

At the same time, the Republicans are using this to hammer Obama.

House Speaker John Boehner says the White House does not have much credibility when it comes to healthcare.

"Promise after promise from this administration turned out to be not true. So when it comes to the healthcare law, the White House doesn't have much credibility. And let's be clear, the only way to fully protect the American people is to scrap this law once and for all."

The House is going to discuss a Republican-proposed bill Friday.

The Republican move is likely to be largely symbolic, as the Democratically-controlled Senate has voted to support the Affordable Care Act.
