CRI听力:Preview on U.S. Treasury Secretary's Visit to China
China is the last stop of US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew's Asia visit, which has already taken him to Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.
He weiwen is director of China-US-Europe Research Center under International Trade Institution of China of Ministry of Commerce. He says the visit generally aims at promoting US-Asia cooperation for economic growth of the world.
Considering the timing with China having just concluded its plenary session, He Weiwen says the Treasury Secretary will definitely be interested in the blueprint of China's reform.
"In particular about China's economic system reform, focus on the market forces. That is to let the market forces playing the decisive role in the allocation of resources. Because it will feed big new chances for the business in China, and they will certainly be interested to learn more."
He adds Jacob Lew may touch upon the Renminbi exchange rate mechanism and learn more about the Shanghai Free Trade zone.
Apart from the financial sector, Chen Fengying with the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations says the reform on China's state-owned enterprises is also part of Lew's concern.
"There has long been a misreading from the US side that they think the Chinese government is protecting state-owned enterprises from the market competition. So he cares much about how reforms will proceed in this area. This is also why they've been promoting government's neutrality in competition."
Meantime, she believes Jacob Lew is trying to push for talks concerning the Trans-Pacific Partnership during his visit to the other Asian countries.
But she doubts whether the US can draw a conclusion to the TPP talks by the end of this year, saying the process is less than 30-percent finished.
Chen thinks it is a pity China has not been included so far.
"TPP is happening right at our door step, TPP talks are actually among the twelve APEC member countries. China is also part of it and we are holding APEC meeting next year. So we should follow TPP's development and study it."
She suggests China should take the initiative in joining TPP negotiations, though it will not top the agenda during Jacob Lew's China visit.
