CRI听力:Rio Officials Assure Security for World Cup Final

The top officials in charge of security in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro say security can be ensured during the World Cup final on Sunday.

Army general Jamil Magid said Sunday's security operation would encompass the entire city of Rio de Janeiro, not just the vicinity of Maracana stadium.

"We are also focused in the importance of the final game. The increase in tourists, the increase of supporters not only around the stadium but in the whole city. And there is extra work, as some heads of state and the president will be at the final game."

Officials say large numbers of police will be deployed around the city.

During the World Cup, naval vessels have been prominently positioned off Rio de Janeiro to signal a display of strength.

In Guanabara Bay on Friday a submarine was on patrol, alongside other warships.

Large scale demonstrations have erupted in the run-up to and during this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
