China Railway is reportedly exploring plans to start a bank.
The China Economic Weekly has reported that Wang Mengshu, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said the rail operator's investment fund asked for his opinion on two options for starting a bank.
Wang is cited as saying China Railway is considering whether to start a lender, by itself, similar to the Export-Import Bank of China.
Earlier this week, Bank of Communications said it's studying plans to diversify its ownership and improve its corporate governance.
For more on what's happening on this front, CRI's Paul James spoke with Benjamin Cavender, Principal of China Market Research Group.
