CRI听力:A New Liverpool without Suarez
Liverpool has begun its post-Luis Suarez era with a 2-1 win over Southampton at Anfield on Sunday.
Last season's runners-up in the English Premier League took the lead thanks to Raheem Sterling in the 23rd minute, but Southampton fought back to equalize early in the second half.
Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers says he received a text from Luis Suarez before the game, wishing Liverpool well for the new season.
The Liverpool coach describes it as "lovely" and "a great gesture", but stresses that the club's ambitions stretch beyond those of a single player.
"Listen, our ambitions here at Liverpool... they have to be bigger than one player, I've said that repeatedly. Big clubs will lose players and our ambitions are bigger than Luis... He sent us a lovely text this morning, wishing us all the best and for his team mates and to start strong, so it was a great gesture, but... he's a friend, now, of Liverpool."
Rodgers adds a good start is very important to the competition and a victory can set the tone for the team after the match.
