CRI听力:Chinese Embassy Urges Manila Protect Chinese Nationals
The Chinese embassy in Manila is calling on the Philippine government to ensure the protection of Chinese nationals in the country.
This comes amid word Philippine authorities have arrested three men linked to a group that allegedly planned to attack a number of sites associated with China in the Philippines.
The alleged leader of the group and two other men were arrested with four home-made incendiary devices found inside their car parked at Manila's international airport.
Leila De Lima is the Philippines' Secretary of Justice.
"They were not just targeting the International Airport terminal three, but they were also planning to bomb the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, and they were also planning to do a strafing of the Chinese Embassy and the DMCI building."
DMCI is a local property company which hires Chinese workers.
Local authorities allege the suspects were planning to vent their anger at the Philippine government for, what they contend, is its "soft" stance in dealing with territorial disputes with China.
