CRI听力:Rescue Underway as Hundreds Killed in Pakistan Flood
Nearly a week of monsoon rains has killed around 300 people across a wide area of Pakistan and northern India.
Pakistani armed forces and civilian rescuers have mounted a massive operation using helicopters and boats to rescue stranded villagers.
At least 160 people have died in the country and some 2,500 villages have been flooded, rendering thousands of people homeless.
Naveed Sultan is a local doctor.
"It's mostly skin diseases among flood affected people. Some people received injuries because they were trapped or stranded in floodwaters. We are providing them with treatment. Some people are suffering with stomach infections. We are trying our best to provide them with health facilities."
Meanwhile, Indian government has dispatched troops to the flood-ravaged Indian controlled Kashmir.
Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif, offering assistance to the rescue and relief works.
Pakistan and India suffer widespread flooding each year during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September.
