CRI听力:Last Fleeing Inmate Captured in NE China
The last remaining fugitive who escaped from a detention center in northeast China earlier this month has been re-captured.
50-year-old Gao Yulun was picked up in a village on the outskirts of Heilongjiang's capital, Harbin, in the same county where his prison is located.
Out of extreme hunger, Gao took a risk, seeking food from the home of a relative.
The relative offered him food to settle him down and then called the village chief.
Gao was soon detained by police.
Zheng Baoyu is reporting for China Central Television.
"From the police photo and witnesses' accounts, we learned that Gao Yulun was much weaker both mentally and physically when he was apprehended and could hardly put up any resistance."
Gao, who is already facing the death penalty in an earlier conviction, had been on the run for 9 days, pursued by some 2,000 police and paramilitary officers.
He and two other inmates escaped after murdering a guard at their detention center on Sept. 2nd.
The other two escapees were apprehended within 48-hours.
Four officers, including the head and deputy head of the detention center and a deputy police chief of Yanshou County, have been suspended from their posts pending further investigation.
