Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered a speech on Sino-India relations and China's policy on South Asia in New Delhi.

In his speech, Xi Jinping underlines the importance of strategic partnership between China and India.

"During my visit here, Prime Minister Modi and I have had in-depth and all round discussions on bilateral ties and issues of common concern. And we have reached broad consensus. We have many ideas in common. We both agree to expand the strategic cooperative partnership."

Earlier, China and India made a series of proclamations and announcements following meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Among them, the two sides have agreed to work together to increase speeds on India's high-speed rail lines through the use of Chinese technology and know-how.

They have also agreed to the creation of a pair of Chinese industrial parks in western and central India.

The trip to India is Xi Jinping's first since taking office in March of last year.

It's also the first state visit by a Chinese president to India in 8 years.
