CRI听力:China Calls for Peaceful Settlement of South Sudan Conflict
China is calling on the warring sides in South Sudan to implement the ceasefire agreement and make peace.
This follows a visit to Beijing from a high-level delegation representing South Sudan's opposition.
The delegation has met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying says views on peacefully resolving the current conflict have been exchanged.
"The Chinese side has always supported the leading role played by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and will continue to work for maintaining the peace and stability of South Sudan and surrounding regions. We'd like to continue working for a timely and comprehensive settlement of the South Sudan issue."
South Sudan descended into chaos following a political dispute between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.
The tensions escalated in late 2013 into a full-scale conflict, displacing 1.5 million people.
Clashes continue to flare up despite truce deals signed in January and May.
