CRI听力:Karzai Warns Successors against US

2014-09-24来源:CRI

Outgoing Afghan President Hamid Karzai has warned his successors to take a careful path with America and the West.

The comment comes as Karzai gave a farewell speech before an inauguration ceremony to usher in the new president Ashraf Ghani.

"It is my advice to the future government. Both our brothers are clever and they have been part of our government in the past 14 years. They know everything, so they should pay attention to this point and they should take a careful path with America and the West. We want to have friendship, absolutely want it, but they have to keep the interests of Afghanistan in their minds, accept us as a nation, as a country, then we will have friendship with them."

Karzai also says the peace process has failed because America does not want peace.

The outgoing president has long accused the US for causing too many civilian casualties in the country.

US ambassador to Afghanistan James Cunningham says he is saddened by Karzai's comment, and that some remakes have dishonored America's war dead.

Unlike Karzai, Ghani has already said he will sign a security deal with the U.S, setting the parameters for 9,800 US troops to stay in Afghanistan after 2014.
