CRI听力:Williams to Battle Stosur in Semi-finals at Beijing Open
In tennis,
World number-1 Serena Williams is set to contest the quarter-finals later on today against Australian Samantha Stosur at the Beijing Open.
Williams had to battle to make it into the semi-finals after dropping the 2nd set in her 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 battle over Lucie Safrova in the 3rd round yesterday.
Serena's sister, Venus, has withdrawn from the tournament, allowing 3rd seed Petra Kvitova to move into the quarters after Venus pulled out of the tournament.
Russian Svetlana Kunetzova is into the quarters after upsetting 7th seed Angelique Kerber in a 3-set affair.
She'll be taking on fellow Russian Maria Sharapova, who advanced through to the quarters on Wednesday.
2nd seed Simona Halep has withdrawn from the tournament with a hip injury after struggling through a 3-set match of her own, narrowly getting past Germany's Andrea Petkovic 7-6, 5-7, 7-6.
This means her opponent, Ana Ivanovic, has moved straight through to the semi-finals, after her straight-sets victory over Germany's Sabine Lisiki in straight-sets.
On the men's side,
Raphael Nadal is through to the quarter-finals after downing German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk in straight sets.
The Spanish 2nd seed is set to battle qualifier Martin Klizan. The Slovak is through after 7th seeded Ernests Gulbis had to retire from the match in the 2nd set.
Britain's Andy Murray is also into the quarters after rolling past Argentina's Pablo Cuevas 6-2, 6-2.
He's got a date against US Open Champ Marin Cilic, who easily dispatched Portugal's Joao Sousa in straight-sets.
And 3rd seed Thomas Berdych will be up against American John Isner, after Berdych rolled through Slovakian Viktor Troicki in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
There is one Chinese hope left for a title at the Beijing Open in the women's doubles.
Peng Shuai and her Czech partner Andrea Hlavackova are through to the semi-finals on the back of a straight-set victory yesterday.
The only other Chinese representation at the Beijing Open dropped yesterday, as the young Chinese women's double's duo of Zhang Kailin and Han Xinyun fell easily to world number one pair of Italian's Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci in straight sets.
Vinci and Errani, should they win today, will be up against Peng Shuai and her partner in the semi-finals.
