CRI听力:U.N. Humanitarian Chief Visits Refugee Camp in Turkey
U.N. Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos has visited a refugee camp in southeastern Turkey where thousands of Syrian Kurds are being sheltered.
This comes as the fiercest fighting in days has been taking place in the Syrian border town of Kobani.
Islamic State fighters have attacked Kurdish forces with mortars and car bombs.
The intense fighting in Kobani has forced more than 250-thousand to flee Kobani into Turkey over the past few weeks.
Amos says the international community is doing what it can to support the refugees.
"The local authorities, the national authorities, particularly AFAD (Turkish Disaster Management Agency), U.N. agencies and International and national NGOs have come together very quickly and hard to give as much support to people as possible."
The fighting in Kobani is being supported by US-led coalition air strikes.
The town itself has strategic value for the Islamic State, as it is a key hub which can allow its fighters to quietly move back and forth across the border into Turkey.
