CRI听力:Zhang Jike Stripped of His Prize Money
China's Zhang Jike beat his teammate and good friend Ma Long 4-3 to clinch the 2014 Table Tennis Men's World Cup title in Dusseldorf, Germany.
However, the World and Olympic Champion was stripped of his $45,000 prize money for celebrating the victory by putting his foot through two boards.
His Coach Liu Guoliang criticized him for this behavior.
"He is always very enthusiastic. However, he went too far this time. It's wrong to behave in this way for whatever reasons."
Zhang apologized to the public for his actions.
"I am very sorry for what I did. It was not acceptable behavior and I am sorry. This was a perfect victory. I have been under a great deal of pressure, with people questioning my form."
