2014-10-31来源:CRI

A Palestinian suspected of shooting a Jewish far-right activist has been shot dead by Israeli police outside his home in east Jerusalem.

He has been identified as 32-year-old Muatnaz Hijazi.

Hijazi was suspected of murdering far-right Israeli activist Yehuda Glick at the Al-Aqsa temple in Jerusalem.

The site is considered sacred for both Jews and Muslims.

Al-Aqsa, or the Temple Mount, has since been closed to all visitors as a security precaution.
In the West Bank, Palestinian Social Affairs minister Shawki Aleessa says the root of the problem remains Israel.

"We believe that the only way is to implement the international law, end the occupation, this will solve the problem because we have to address the root of the problem. As the General Secretary of the United Nations said during the aggression on Gaza, the root of all the problems here is the Israeli occupation and the Israeli policies."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is accusing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of inciting violence against Jews by trying to block them from the Temple Mount.

"A few days ago, I said that we were facing a wave of incitement by radical Islamic elements and by Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen who said that Jews must be prevented from going up to the Temple Mount by any means possible. The international community needs to stop its hypocrisy and take action against inciters, against those who try to change the status quo."

Amid the rising tensions in east Jerusalem, Sweden has recognized a Palestinian state.

Israel has since recalled its ambassador to Sweden in protest.
