CRI听力:FDA to Increase Food Safety Staff in China for More Collaboration
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, is working with the Chinese government and industry to improve the food safety system and verification of food-safety standards.
The efforts include the FDA's recent move to increase staff in China for more collaboration and support.
Michael Taylor, deputy commissioner for foods and veterinary medicine for the FDA.
"We've been working with the Chinese government towards establishing the bases for adding a few more inspectors. We only, at present, have four food safety staff based in China. We are looking to increase that to twelve, so by eight investigators. We think we are very close to having an agreement to make that possible."
Taylor calls for more dialogue and input from industry on the recently issued supplemental rules that are open for comment until mid-December.
He is also due to attend the Shanghai International Food Conference on Wednesday, which will bring together governments, industry figures, and epidemic experts to work on the development and verification of food safety rules.
