CRI听力:Former Mayor and Wife Arrested in Connection with Missing Students
Mexican police have detained the fugitive former mayor of Iguala and his wife in connection with the disappearance and suspected murder of nearly 50 student activists.
The couple are accused of ordering attacks on teachers' college students in September that has officially left 6-dead and 43 missing.
At least 56 others have been arrested in connection with the case.
Mexican President Enrique Nieto says he hopes the arrests of the pair will shed light on the disappearance of the students.
"I hope that this arrest will contribute in a decisive way to the clearing up of and the investigation which the Attorney General is carrying out."
Investigators suspect the mayor of Iguala and his wife contracted a local drug cartel to round up the students, who had been in opposition to his policies.
So far the pair have only been detained in connection with the students' disappearance.
